I've only played AC2 and liked it a lot, though the jumping in the churches was very painful at times. I just hate it how the camera rotates and alters my jump directions for me :@

But still, that didn't stop me from finishing the game because the story was interesting and the graphics looked great.

Not sure when I'll buy AC:B though... Guess we'll have to wait for another nice Steam deal

AC2 and AC:B both make great improvements. For me the key to these games (and open world games in general) is not to push yourself to finish them quickly. Just play a little at a time, and when you start to get bored or tired, quit for the day, then pretty soon you get the itch to pick it back up. AC1 was very polarizing among reviewers, notably getting a 4/10 from EGM, and I think the only reason that would happen is if you had to finish the game on a deadline.

Most mistakes from Assassin's Creed were addressed correctly in Assassin's Creed 2, but I don't think that Assassin's Creed should be skipped. It should be played, if only for the magnificent presentation.

I'm playing through Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood now. I don't think it is such a step up from 2, but it is certainly very good.

Yeah, I think you're definitely going to enjoy Assassin's Creed 2 a lot more. Each game in the series is a remarkable step up from the previous.
