At Stack HQ this week, we’re ramping up for the massive showdown between The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The Awesometer is greased up and ready to start counting views on the Modern Warfare 3 tag starting tonight when the game hits. MW3 gets a few days’ head start, so Skyrim fans can size up the competition before the showdown begins in earnest in the wee hours of Friday morning. The Awesometer will tell us once and for all: which game is more awesome?
If the requests we’ve gotten through the Gaming Stack Exchange Promotional Grant are any indicator of the interest within our community, Modern Warfare 3 is in danger of getting crushed. Seriously – as we execute this round of the grant, all we’re hearing about is Skyrim. I’m in the MW3 camp, and frankly, I’m sick of it. I’m tempted to steal Brett‘s laptop so he can’t send out any more free copies of Skyrim. (I won’t, but only because I’m not sure I’m tough enough to stand up to the beard.)
Surely I must be wrong. Surely MW3’s lackluster performance in the Gaming Grant is a harbinger not of its doom in the upcoming competition, but of its inevitable success. The Call of Duty fans on this site are so organized and together that they planned ahead and preordered the game way back when it was first announced. That’s why they don’t need us to ship them the game. That’s what these Skyrim fans have had to do, because they weren’t dedicated enough to plan ahead. That’s what these numbers mean.
Prove me right, Modern Warfare fans! We’ve got a few days’ head start over “Team” Skyrim, so be sure to ask your questions and then share the crap out of them! Plurk them all over your friendlespace page so we can get our view count up and let the Awesometer tell truly. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the superior game with superior fans. I know this, and you know this – we’ve just got to get the numbers to prove it.
